The Edelweiss Hotel and Spa – How it all began

When the Edelweiss Blossomed in Berchtesgaden

The EDELWEISS began its life as a tavern dating back to the Middle Ages. Indeed, guests have been entertained on this spot since the 14th century, and this has endured until it became the modern spa hotel we know today.
This wouldn't have happened if Peter Hettegger, an experienced hotelier from Grossarl, Austria, hadn't come to Berchtesgaden in 2005. One of his regular clients, the "Lederhosen maker from Berchtesgaden" Franz Stangassinger invited him to look round the town… Mr Hettegger immediately recognised the location's great potential and decided to build the EDELWEISS hotel and spa.

Only five years after his decision to transform what had once been the "Hotel Post" into the EDELWEISS, Hettegger's project was complete and the EDELWEISS hotel and spa was opened in Berchtesgaden with great celebration.
No wonder that this place, steeped in history, has become a successful hotel. It has been run by the experienced hotelier's daughter, Martina, and her husband, Thomas, since 2010.
